Starting Aikido: Beginners

If you are thinking about starting aikido, we suggest that you visit the dojo and observe a class. The 4:15 afternoon class tends to focus on basic techniques; however, we have only mixed classes. So if you decide to start, you are welcome to attend any class on our schedule.

During the first three or five classes, one experienced student will work with you privately to help you learn the initial moves and the basics while class is in progress. Please let them know about any concern you may have (i.e. health related,) so that they can teach you accordingly. As you become familiar with movements and rolls, you will start joining groups and practicing with other people.

All classes are open to all levels, so you can practice with black belts and other advanced people. Don't worry, everybody trains at his/her own pace, even if your partner has 20 years of experience. In this way both of you learn from each other.
